London Olympics - 600 days to go..

London is going to host the 2012 Olympics and the construction works of stadiums are in progress.London is training their athletes so hard that they can have a reasonable number of medals at their home ground.London considered Commonwealth games as a trial for theOlympics 2012 though the slipped away to the third position behind India at the Delhi CWG 2010.But it is to be remembered that England got 59 silver medals in the games. The gold winners of all 59 events was Australia , a country which remained in top five position of BeijingOlympics 2008. London was elected as the host city for the Games of the XXX Olympiad on 6 July 2005 at the 117th IOC Session in Singapore. London eventually succeeded in the fourth round of voting taking 54 votes from a possible 104. London faced stiff opposition during the vote from the other four candidate cities: Paris, New York, Moscow and Madrid. There will be 26 sports on the Olympic programme in London in 2012 and around 10,500 athletes. Construction work on the new lake and competition courses has been completed at the London 2012 canoe slalom venue in the Lee Valley Regional Park and this has allowed water to start flowing at the venue, so that the courses can be tested. The venue is expected to be completed later this year and will include a standard 300m competition course, a boat conveyor, a 160m intermediate/training course, a 10,000m² finish lake, and a facility building and pumping house.Thousands of seats are soon to be installed in the London 2012 basketball arena, which is reported to be one of the largest temporary venues ever used for an Olympic and Paralympic Games. The seating structure is now taking shape, before the black and orange seats – representing the colours of a basketball – are put into place. At Games-time, the venue will host basketball, handball, wheelchair basketball, and wheelchair rugby.Work has begun on preparing the ground at Greenwich Park, the site of London’s Olympic equestrian venue. The work, which will be carried out by London 2012 sub-contractors in association with The Royal Parks, will ensure that the condition of the grass is ideal for the competitors in 2012. Work will include irrigation, de-compaction, mowing, and some other enhancements. The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has also announced plans for thousands of new trees, parks, play areas, and open spaces to support the new homes being delivered in theLondon 2012 Olympic Village. Landscaping is already underway for the creation of an extensive wetlands area on the Village site, with the overall plans for these green spaces adding to the landscaping works already underway in the Olympic Park site, which is creating one of the largest new urban parks in the UK for over 100 years. With a little under 2 years to go, the London 2012 venues are rapidly taking shape, as water is now flowing at the canoe slalom venue, the seating structure is taking shape at the basketball arena, ground preparation work is beginning at Greenwich Park, and landscaping work is getting underway at the Olympic Village. With athletes and teams now in the process of qualifying for the 2012 Games, this progress is a reassuring sign that London is on time and on track to welcome the world’s top sports people in 2012.Sources say London Olmpics igoing to be far more better than Beijing Olympics 2008

Sachin The Master Blaster

Sachin is a world famous Indian Cricketer who is still conquering records after record even at the age of 37. Most of his peer group fellow cricketer have retired. This makes Sachin an out-standing cricketer. He has a passion for cricket which most others lack. He is a wonderful all rounder also. Sachin helped India to win many crunch mathes. He has strong will power and can change the pace of a match. On my opinion there is no player who could replace Sachin. Here are some of his records..

Saina Nehwal,The Asian Games Batminton Champion

Badminton competitions, in which seven events are present, would be held from November 13 to  21.The twenty year old Indian star has made it to the Quarter finals in the Beijing Olympic 2008 two years ago, has beaten Lydia when they met in the final of the Chinese Taipei Open in 2008.Saina is currently the world number 3 behind top ranked Chinese In Wang and Ihan Wang, is expected to get past either Lydia Cheah of Malaysia or Vietnam’s Thi Trang Vu, who are to clash in round one.The Vietnamese is, however, an unknown commodity for the Indian medal hope as the two have never met before in an international competition at the senior level.A victory in round two would pilot the Hyderabad based Indian world junior champion straight into a potentially dangerous clash with Hong Kong’s World no 12 Pui in ip, seeded sixth.Saina’s rising stature and her recent form going into the Asian Games on the back of the Commonwealth Games gold should stand her in good stead if she is to face the 21 year old Malaysian girl.In the semi- finals, Saina is drawn to meet Chinese world no 5 Shixian Wang, the third seed, a rival to whom she had lost in this year’s world championship. They have a 1- 1 head- to- head record till now, with the Haryana- born Saina having conquered Pui in straight games last year in the French Open after having lost to the Hong Kong girl in the 2007 Swiss Open.Saina is expected to win the Asian Games Singles Title.

National Football League Live Scores, Schedule and Review of the matches

The 2010 National Football League was really wonderful to watch.I really thought the 49′ers would be a decent team this year but they have continually shot themselves in the foot. Smith shows flashes that he can be an above average and even excellent quarterback in the NFL but then he has gaffes and interceptions that kill his team. This is anotherquarterback who will interesting to watch as the season unfolds. He clearly has been labeled a bust of a first round draft pick, but he has achance at redemption. Only time will tell if he takes that chance to house.New England played very poorly on offense and defense. San Diego moved the ball up and down the field on the Patriots’ defense, while the Patriots offense could do little. There was one little problem though. San Diego kept making stupid plays and turnovers that cost them game. New England should have been blowing the Chargers out in the first half with as many opportunities as they had but took only a slim lead into the locker room.As a Patriots fan watching the first half, I feared the second half. If San Diego cleaned up the mistakes they would probably win the game. Luckily they continued to make gaffes in the second half that allowed the Patriots to barely pull off a win. This game was a great illustration of two things. First, the great vale of Randy Moss to the Patriots’ offense. Without that deep receiving threat San Diego blanked the Patriots’ slot receivers like Wes Welker and we could not move the ball either in the air or on the ground. The Patriots will have to establish a better running attack and/or find that deep threat to stretch the defense. Preferably both. Secondly, smart teams win games.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Special Teams: Dez Bryant, WR/KR,
Dallas Cowboys,Offensive Player: Kenny Britt, WR, Tennessee Titans
Offensive Lineman:
Chad Clifton, T, Green Bay Packers,Rookie of the Week: Dez Bryant, WR, Dallas Cowboys,Defensive Player: DeAngelo Hall, CB, Washington Redskins
The Patriots defense took advantage of poor decisions by the Chargers to collect two gift turnovers because they are smart and knew what to do with the San Diego mistakes. And that is why they won the game. And yes, I thought going for it on fourth down at the end of the game to seal was a good decision. We should have made that yard. Luckily the Chargers once again shot themselves in the foot by getting a penalty on the field goal and then missed the 50 yarder. What a wild, wild game this was. Both offenses simply moved the ball up and down the field against the other teams’ defense. I knew Buffalo has been looking a lot better with Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback but I did not expect this kind of performance against the Ravens defense. But Ed Reed is back. He forced one fumble that cost the Bills a lot of field position and collected to interceptions, which really were the difference in the game.Buffalo’s offense has a lot going for it with two good receivers and some solid if not spectacular running backs. It’s defense is a liability, especially the front seven. But even what I consider to be a solid defensive backfield struggled in this game. Baltimore’s defense has shown to be vulnerable in a few games but Ed Reed proved why he is so important to this team.MVP: Ed ReedOther than the last drive of the game Brett Favre simply looked awful and his turnovers were what cost the Vikings the game. It would appear a combination of his ankle injury and mental state given revelations of his sending salacious voice and nude text messages to a Jets’ bimbo sideline report may have really taken his concentration off the game. I was also shocked to see Jared Allen be such a non-factor this year. I have only seen one game where he really had an impact, and ironically that was in the first Green Bay-Minnesota tilt. The Packers are not looking like world beaters either though. What promised to be a great year is turning into being one where the Packers are good but probably not good enough to take it all.A.J. Hawk, LBPut a fork in them, the Cowboys are done. In this game, despite turnovers, the Giants were able to thoroughly dominate the Cowboys. With Romo out possibly for the rest of the season (I can’t imagine he will come back and play if they are out of it at the end of season) the Cowboys are probably done. Especially considering their woes on the offense line.his year that is not the case, so far. The best teams right now are those with stout defenses and are solid in the running and passing game. The 2010 National Football League was really wonderful to wa

The Indian trio of VVS Laxman, Gautam Gambhir and Ishant Sharma have returned from injury to bolster the team for next month's three-Test series against New Zealand. The selectors, who met in Chennai, once again overlooked middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh and retained youngster Cheteshwar Pujara, who made his debut against Australia in Bangalore earlier this month.Gambhir and Sharma were nursing knee injuries that kept them out of the Bangalore Test, while Laxman missed the match because of a back problem.Opener Murali Vijay, who replaced Gambhir in Bangalore, has been retained in the 15-member squad led by MS Dhoni.Ahmedabad hosts the first Test from November 4, while Hyderabad (November 12-16) and Nagpur (November 20-24) are the venues for the two other matches.India squad: MS Dhoni (captain), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Murali Vijay, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Suresh Raina, Cheteshwar Pujara, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, Pragyan Ojha, Amit Mishra.

India win one-day series with Australia after washout

The final one-day international between India and Australia was abandoned without a ball bowled in Margao, giving the home team a 1-0 series victory. It completed a wretched tour for the Australians ahead of the Ashes starting on 25 November, as they also lost the two-match Test series 2-0.Steady rain over the past few days left the outfield waterlogged in Goa's second largest town. The first match was also abandoned and India won the second by five wickets. In addition to the dismal weather the one-day series was also blighted by the absence of key figures.Star players on both sides chose to miss the series, Sachin Tendulkar for India and Australia captain Ricky Ponting.Next up for India is the visit of New Zealand for three Tests and a five-match ODI series, starting next month.Australia, still currently the number one ranked one-day side, begin their quest to rise up the Test rankings and regain the Ashes in the first Test against England at Brisbane.

Paul the Oracle Octopus goes eight for eight, is amazing

Eight picks, eight correct, eight tentacles. Paul the Oracle Octopus is clearly the biggest winner of the World Cup after recording a perfect prognostication record whether he knows it or not (he probably doesn't).
The big question was whether Paul's predictive superpowers would translate to the final - the first match he was asked to predict that did not involve his native
Germany. But such piddly concerns did not bother Paul. Mostly because he's an octopus. Just as he predicted, the European champions Spain became world champions for the first time with an Andres Iniesta goal in extra time. And as the Spanish celebrated, Paul floated in his tank, sure of his genius and probably craving a fresh clam.
Since Paul is an international celebrity of the highest order now, everyone wants a piece of him - both literally and figuratively.
Italy is trying to claim that he was caught in Italian waters, Spanish businessmen are trying to buy him for €30,000 ($38,000), and Dutch priests tried to dismiss him.
But in
Spain, Paul is an icon. The Spanish prime minister has alreadyspoken of his desire to protect "Pulpo Paul" and the mock up of a new version of Spain's flag could be dangerously close to becoming real.
So what becomes of Paul now? Well, he'll probably continue to live out the remainder of his days at the Sea Life aquarium in
Oberhausen, Germany, no longer forced to pick his food out of flag-covered boxes while surrounded by an obscene number of media types. He will swim at his leisure and continue to be oblivious to the existence of sports. He will retire a winner and a global sensation - what every other octopus (and even a few pundits) wishes they could be.

All hail Paul.
